OTHMAR: A Legacy That Redefined Everyday Jewellery

The global jewellery industry has been quietly transforming over the past few decades. Once dominated by heirloom pieces and high price tags, the market has gradually opened its doors to something far more expressive—fashion jewellery that blends design, accessibility, and individuality. Today’s consumers want pieces that reflect personality and everyday style rather than objects locked away for special occasions. Across Europe especially, brands that balance design with accessibility are reshaping how people wear jewellery.

Long before this shift became mainstream, OTHMAR was already part of the movement. The Copenhagen-based brand carries a story that stretches back decades, rooted in creativity, bold decisions, and a belief that jewellery should be beautiful but never intimidating.

A Family Vision That Started in 1972

The story begins in 1972 when Lise Othmar opened a small jewellery shop in Copenhagen. At the time, the concept of fashion jewellery was still unfamiliar across Scandinavia. Fine jewellery dominated the market, and accessories were often treated as luxury investments rather than everyday style statements. Lise challenged that idea.

She became the first in Scandinavia to sell fashion jewellery, offering pieces that were stylish, expressive, and far more accessible than traditional options. The response was immediate curiosity that quickly turned into admiration. Trendsetters and the press began noticing the small Copenhagen store, and slowly it developed a reputation as a place where jewellery was about personality rather than prestige.

In 1990, the next chapter of the brand began when the family legacy was carried forward by the next generation. Just a year later, the brand opened its store in St. Kongensgade in the heart of Copenhagen—a location that still holds the spirit of the brand today.

Growing Beyond the Store

As OTHMAR evolved, so did its reach. What began as a single shop gradually expanded into supplying jewellery across Northern Europe, working with boutiques, department stores, and even airlines. Over time, the brand continued adapting to the changing retail landscape.

In 2008, a pivotal shift in production allowed OTHMAR to focus on stronger design and better value for customers. The goal remained the same: keep jewellery stylish, high-quality, and accessible. By 2016, the brand stepped confidently into the digital era with the launch of its webshop, making its collections available far beyond Copenhagen.

Today the brand offers a wide range of pieces—from rings and necklaces to bracelets and earrings—each designed with the same philosophy that started it all. Jewellery should feel special, but it should also be wearable, personal, and within reach. Rooted in heritage yet evolving with modern consumers, OTHMAR continues to expand its presence both online and beyond Denmark. The brand remains a quiet but influential example of how timeless ideas can still shape the future of jewellery.
